Snowboard Grabs

beginners mountain bike

Grabs play a vital role in snowboarding. They can help you improve your style and develop advanced skills while also building confidence. There are numerous grabs that can be performed, but a few fundamental ones are the most effective and serve as a good foundation for more complex tricks.

Grab the board

Most of the ways you can grab your snowboard are easy. Some are done at the heel or toe edge of the snowboard, between your feet. Others are done at the nose and tail.

Some grabs are harder to perform than others. Some grabs are dangerous if done incorrectly!

Nose Grab

This trick may be more difficult to master, but it's a lot of fun. This trick involves holding the nose of your snowboard with your leading hand. This is useful when landing side-hit 360s, as it allows you to align your board with slope of the hill.

Tail Grab

This is a very similar trick to the nose grab but it is much easier to do. This is a great grab to use when hucking from a roller track or cat track on a sloped landing.

Seatbelt Grab

This grab is another popular one and looks cool on a backside 180. It's also a great way to flex and tweak your riding, as it allows you to take the board in front of your body while keeping your arms out to the sides.

Method

The method grab is a popular grab that's often referred to as the king of all grabs! This is a tricky grab to master at first. You'll need to extend your legs. But it's a great trick.

Mute Grab

It's a good grab to master and a great one to practice! The mute grab can be awkward at first but is an important skill to have.

If you want to master this grab, focus on keeping your upper-body aligned with board. Once you feel confident, try a Shifty.

Melon Grab

The melon grab is another fun and stylish trick that can be a bit hard to do. It involves reaching outside your leading knee and grabbing the toe edge of your board between the bindings with your leading hand. It is much more elegant than the mute grabber and can even be done with two hands!

It's time for something more complicated. This method grab is a combination of the backside move and the melon grasp. It is stylish too!
